Another successful trip: Thank you for your Prayers!

We want to say a big thank you to everyone who journeyed with us on our 2018 trip. We had a great team of 11 who worked hard with servant hearts the whole time. Thank you to those who supported our team members individually to go on the trip and in prayer as we traveled. We had one of the smoothest trips with on-time travel, all bags arriving and no major sicknesses, Praise the Lord for his faithfulness and hedge of protection around our team. We had the opportunity to do a large outreach in the local community to focus on parents with children with disabilities. The Home of Hope staff conduct these outreaches and home visits monthly to encourage parents to keep their children at home and provide proper care. We were able to invite another community as well since we had such a large group of OTs and students with us, three OTs and 4 OT students from ASU. During this outreach Corey preached the gospel, 50 Bibles were given out in their native Lugandan language, basic toiletry bags were given out, each child received time with the OT staff to know how best to care for their child and each family was prayed with one on one. We had one precious lady make a decision to follow Jesus and we rejoice with this new sister.

We also completed an outreach at Kisaakye Rehab, a vacation bible school at Mt. Zion Primary school for children with disabilities, therapy with kids at Home of Hope, visits to our sponsored children at boarding schools, home visits, worshipped at Deliverance Church, conducted a Home of Hope staff retreat, ate great Ugandan food, explored the beautiful nature of Uganda and danced, danced, danced! It was an amazing trip. Here are a few pictures but feel free to see more by following us on Facebook: Our Hope,Twitter @loveourhope or Instagram: Our Hope International

We are working on nailing down dates for the 2019 trip…..stay connected with us on social media to be the first to know the dates and details! We welcome anyone to join us on a future trip; ministers, therapists, doctors, nurses, students, teachers, etc! Whatever your gift is we will create a way for you to use it on this trip!

Home of Hope Building Project

The Lord has been so gracious over the years and we have been able to acquire our own land and build our own home for the kids at Home of Hope thanks to a lot of generous supporters both here and in Uganda. We have loved our own space but the number of children has continued to grow close to 60, with several of the children being older and requiring additional space and care. This spring during Edith’s first trip to the USA, we were able to work with EmbraceKulture to raise funds to purchase 1 acre of land adjacent to the current home. With this big step, Edith and her staff at Home of Hope have been able to plan for the future. The goal is to build a 3 story building that will serve many purposes. The first floor will be home to the older children at Home of Hope and will allow them adequate space to sleep, live and take care of their daily needs. At their current home, children are sleeping on mats in the hallways due to over crowding and we desire to see each child have a bed of their own with a proper mosquito net. The second floor will be an area for learning trades and crafts. Several of the older children are able to learn and desire to be productive citizens and we would like to give them this opportunity. Through woodworking, sewing and jewelry making the children could produce items to be sold in their community to help Home of Hope continue to work toward becoming self sufficient. The third floor would be a guest house that visitors and volunteers could rent while serving in Uganda, this would also provide additional income. The foundation has been laid with the remaining funds from the spring trip but there is much work to be done. Here are the costs:

The entire building project: $70,000

To finish the ground floor for the kids to move in: $25,000

We are currently out of funds to continue and are praying for the Lord to provide and move this project forward. To give you and click on the donate tab and select the Mt Zion building fund tab.

So Grateful to serve

It’s hard to believe it’s time to fly again! Our team of six leaves June 13th to work with our partners in Uganda. It is such an honor to be apart of the work the Lord is doing in Jinja. The team this year includes four veterans, Jan Taylor, Kristen Waddell, Jewell Dickson and myself, I am so excited about the skills and wisdom they will bring to the trip. We also have two OT students from Alabama State University, Naomi Perry and Stephanie Brockmann, that will complete our team. We are so happy to have them learn and grow with us.

During our trip we will get to work with all three of our partners; Home of Hope, Mt Zion Primary School and Kisaakye Rehab Center.  In addition we will get to help conduct outreaches specificially for the families of children with disabilities in the Jinja area. During the outreaches we will be able to share the love of Jesus and how he views all children, regardless of abilities as precious and loved. Thanks to generous donors, we have been able to purchase Bibles in the native Lugandan language for people in the village to have their own copy of the word in their heart language.

I have attached a copy of the daily prayer guide for the trip. We welcome your prayers and are so grateful for all of those who helped make this trip a reality. Follow us on Facebook on the Our Hope page and on Twitter @loveourhope to see highlights from the trip each day.

With a grateful heart,

Jenny
