Catherine, affectionately known as Cathy, is a sweet young girl whose life has been marked by both hardship and incredible resilience. After losing both of her parents to complications related to HIV, Cathy went to live with her elderly grandparents. When her grandmother passed away and her grandfather became unable to care for her on his own, the mayor of Bugumbe sought help from Home of Hope to ensure she would receive the care and support she needed.

When Cathy arrived at Home of Hope, she was severely malnourished and in fragile health. She was immediately taken for a comprehensive medical evaluation, where she was diagnosed with epilepsy and found to be HIV positive. These diagnoses explained many of the challenges she had been facing and allowed her caregivers to begin the treatment and therapies needed to help her thrive.

Today, Cathy is flourishing in the loving environment of Home of Hope. Through the dedication of her nannies, regular nursing care, consistent therapy services, and nutritious meals, she has made significant progress. She receives three medications daily to manage her HIV and two medications to control her epilepsy. One of her greatest achievements has been learning to sit independently, a milestone that reflects her determination and hard work. Cathy remains dependent on caregivers for her daily needs, but she continues to gain strength and skills through occupational and physical therapy. Her therapy sessions focus on improving hand function so she can learn to feed herself, as well as developing the strength and balance needed to stand with support and eventually walk.

Cathy is in need of sponsorship to help provide for her daily care at Home of Hope. A sponsorship of $45 per month helps cover essential needs such as nutritious meals, clothing, loving nanny care, medications, therapy services, medical support, and other necessities that contribute to her health and development.
